Sandhya (Sunny) Douglas; (she/her/hers)

Newburyport Resident, Partner and COO at Wellington Management Company, Boston

Identity:  I am an Indian American woman – born in India, raised in India and Singapore, and in the US for over 30 years.  Married to an Irish American, and we have two teenaged children

Why i love Newburyport: It is the most beautiful town to be able to call home.  When I get home from work (pre-pandemic), there is no desire to want to go “away.”  The ocean, the downtown, the architecture, the proximity to mountains.  Every season is beautiful here, and i always feel a great energy as I walk around or drive through the streets; my family is lucky to call this city our home.

Why on the committee? As much as I love Newburyport, we still have a long way to go to become a destination of choice for a more diverse population.  But we have all the raw ingredients to lead the way, and I’m eager to help us become an equitable, inclusive and exciting place for people from all backgrounds and walks of life.

In my free time:  I serve on several non-profit boards;  I play the bass guitar and sing in a garage band; i love to exercise and read.  Most importantly, love being with my family and friends.  In a non-pandemic world, we love to travel and see the world, but always glad to come home to the ‘port!
